Veracruz elections marred by upswing in political violence

The 212 mayoral offices in Veracruz are up for election this June. The pre-campaign, which began on February 2, has been marred by violence, including attacks, kidnappings, and the February 8 murder of a Green Party city council secretary and his brother. Veracruz has some of the highest political violence rates in Mexico, with eight candidates killed in the 2021 mayoral elections. Read more at Animal Político.
